What is Shab-e-Miraj?
Shab-e-Miraj, otherwise called “The Night of Ascent,” is one of the greatest miracles in the Islamic history. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ascended through the skies in a miracle trip to meet God. He thus felt an absolute closeness with Allah, meeting in the skies at the heavenly house. The marvelous night fell during Rajab, 27th day before Hijra two years.
On this night, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was transported from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem, and then ascended through the heavens where he met all prophets-Adam, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus (peace be upon them all). In this respect, his spiritual travel is very symbolic of his status and relationship with Allah.
The journey of Shab-e-Miraj is held in high esteem because it emphasizes the unmatched rank of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Gabriel, the Angel of Revelation, accompanied him on this journey but had to stop at a certain point, saying, “I cannot go any further, but you, O Messenger of Peace, continue your glorious ascent.” The Prophet then moved closer to the Divine Throne, attaining a level of nearness to Allah that is beyond human comprehension.
The Purpose of Shab-e-Miraj
The primary objective of the Prophet’s Ascent was to demonstrate his unique status among all of creation and to bring divine knowledge and guidance to humanity. After this incredible experience, the Prophet returned to Earth to impart the spiritual insights and commandments he received, enriching the lives of Muslims with this profound legacy.
