Reminder from the Qur’an

English Translation:

“And [mention] when We made the House (the Kaaba) a place of return for the people and [a place of] security. And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer. And We charged Abraham and Ishmael, [saying], ‘Purify My House for those who perform Tawaf (circumambulation) and those who are staying [there] for worship and those who bow and prostrate [in prayer].'”
Surah Al-Baqarah (2:125)

Brief Explanation:

  • “We made the House…” — Refers to the Kaaba, which is a sacred place where Muslims gather repeatedly (for Hajj, Umrah, and general worship).
  • “…a place of security” — It is a sanctuary where fighting and harm are forbidden.
  • “Take from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer” — Refers to Maqam Ibrahim, the stone where Prophet Abraham stood during construction of the Kaaba. Muslims are instructed to pray near it after Tawaf.
  • “Purify My House…” — Allah commands Prophet Abraham and Ishmael to keep the Kaaba clean — physically and spiritually — for worshippers.
